Drum Filling Machines

Drum filling machines are industrial filling systems that fill liquid and semi-viscous products into steel or plastic drums at the required volume or weight safely, quickly and with high precision. They are widely used in many industries such as chemicals, petrochemicals, paints, oils, food and pharmaceuticals.
Depending on the process and product, filling is based on weight (kg), volume (litres) or flow (flow meter). Measurements are monitored throughout filling, and the system stops automatically when the target quantity is reached. In applications that require high precision, two-stage filling (fast/slow) and automatic pre-cut algorithms keep overfills and deviations to a minimum.

Operating Principle

An empty drum is placed in the filling station manually or by a conveyor system. When filling starts, the product is transferred into the drum by the pump and valve group. As the target approaches, the system automatically switches to slow filling and completes the fill at the required net value. After filling, drums can be passed on to further processes such as capping, leak testing and labeling.

Automation and Control

Drum filling machines are PLC-controlled and managed via an operator panel or SCADA system. Through the system you can easily monitor and adjust:
• Target fill quantities
• Fast / slow filling settings
• Pump and valve control
• Tolerance, alarm and safety parameters
• Production and filling reports

Filling Technologies

Depending on the application and product properties, the following can be used:
• Weight (load cell) controlled filling
• Flow meter controlled filling
• Piston filling systems
• Time-controlled filling
The systems handle a wide range of products, from low-viscosity liquids to high-viscosity products.

Advantages

• High filling accuracy and repeatability
• Reduced overfills and product losses
• Compatibility with different drum sizes and types
• Hygienic, safe operation
• Manual, semi-automatic and fully automatic operating options

Applications

Drum filling machines are used reliably in the chemicals, paints, oils, petrochemicals, food and pharmaceutical industries, in all applications that require packaging of medium and high volumes of liquid products.
